Botox in Charleston, SC with Dr. Gabriella Vasile | Réforme Dermatology & Aesthetics

Neurotoxin injections, also known as neuromodulators, are one of the most convenient, non-invasive, and effective anti-aging treatments in the aesthetic industry. Their primary focus is to relax dynamic facial wrinkles, fine lines, and expression lines by disrupting the communication between the nerves and facial muscles. Neurotoxin injections are fast, usually taking less than 30 minutes, and have a short recovery time. They’re great for people seeking cosmetic enhancements that fit their busy schedules.

Neurotoxins in Charleston, SC

Neurotoxins, like Botox®, Dysport®, Xeomin®, Daxxify®, and Jeuveau®, are made from the FDA-approved botulinum toxin. Botulinum toxin temporarily disrupts the normal function of the nervous system by interfering with the communication of nerve impulses. When injected into the facial muscles, neurotoxins temporarily block nerve impulse communication, preventing the muscle from contracting. If the muscles cannot move the same way, common wrinkles can relax and even help prevent future wrinkles from forming.

What Causes Wrinkles to Form?

With age, the body’s production of elastin and collagen, two essential proteins responsible for volume and bringing the skin back to its original shape, begins to decrease. As a result, wrinkles and fine lines appear in common areas of facial expression. While these expressions are necessary to communicate how we’re feeling, with age, they begin to appear more exaggerated and can cause creasing.

How Can I Prepare for Botox?

A few practices we recommend to our patients include avoiding unnecessary blood thinning medications and supplements, such as Vitamin E, fish oil, or alcohol, for 3-6 days before their appointment. Patients should also avoid over-the-counter pain medications like aspirin, ibuprofen, Aleve, and Advil unless it’s medically necessary for them to remain on these medications. Lastly, they should come prepared with any questions or concerns they want to address with their neurotoxin provider.

Patients should arrive at our office with a clean and moisturized face on the day of their appointment. They can also drink plenty of water to hydrate their body and skin.

How Are Botox Injections Performed?

After cleansing the skin, a minimal amount of the neurotoxin will be injected into the targeted areas using an ultra-fine needle that releases controlled amounts of product into the facial muscles. A slight pinch in the skin may be felt, but most patients report it being a tolerable and relaxing experience—especially in the hands of a renowned specialist. Once finished and satisfied with the results, the injector will cleanse the patient’s skin again and discuss any aftercare instructions.

FAQs: Botox at Réforme Dermatology & Aesthetics

Neurotoxin treatments are convenient and accessible because of the minimal downtime and recovery after injections. Most patients can resume their daily routines right after leaving our office. It’s recommended to avoid strenuous activities that will cause the skin to sweat for 24 hours after an appointment to help prevent infections and allow the neurotoxin to take effect. Patients should also refrain from resting or napping with their heads on a pillow for at least 3 hours after their appointment. Instead, patients should keep their heads elevated to avoid the risk of the neurotoxin moving out of position before it’s had a chance to settle.
The results of Botox®, Dysport®, Daxxify®, and Jeuveau® usually take about 7-10 days to notice due to the protective protein these forms of neurotoxins contain. Xeomin® is formulated without these protective proteins, allowing the purified form of botulinum toxin to take effect after 5-6 days.
The results of neurotoxin injections can last anywhere from 3 to 4 months, regardless of the neurotoxin form. Daxxify® is a newer product that can last up to twice as long as Botox®. However, everyone’s experience is unique since individual bodies metabolize the product at a different rate. It is normal to see expression lines begin to return slowly; however, with continued treatment sessions, neurotoxin injections can help reverse and prevent lines from becoming any deeper.
Our mission with every patient is to welcome them into a comfortable and caring environment where they feel open to expressing their concerns with a provider who actively listens and engages with them personally and professionally. During your consultation, Dr. Gabriella Vasile will discuss the procedural details and the individual benefits of each neurotoxin option to determine whether Botox®, Dysport®, Xeomin®, Daxxify®, or Jeuveau® is right for you. We believe every patient is unique, so treatment plans must be carefully curated to match their situation.
